UMI Gripper

Multiple configurations

Handheld manipulation demonstration kit

A handheld two-finger parallel gripper that records human manipulation. Video, inertial data and gripper width are recorded in sync and segmented by task; the tactile version adds normal and shear contact signals.

Data CaptureMultimodal Research Platform
01

Two versions, one capture workflow

UMI-GB records video, inertial data and gripper width; UMI-GT adds fingertip tactile sensing for contact and force fusion experiments.

02

Write locally first, then archive

Data enters the sync queue only after it is fully written to SD. Configured devices keep capturing locally when the network drops or the NAS is unreachable, until storage runs out.

03

From teaching to execution validation

Capture mode and robot deployment mode are separate. Policy transfer still requires calibration, action adaptation and real-task evaluation; data capture alone does not promise training gains.

FROM CAPTURE TO ARCHIVE

From power-on to a complete data episode.

  1. 01

    Power-on self-check

Check the device and SD card as instructed, then power on and review the device ID, exterior, firmware, card status and network sync status.

  2. 02

    Complete setup

Load a preset or scan a code to configure Wi-Fi, account and NAS, then save. Wi-Fi setup, sign-in and task selection are required before a new recording.

  3. 03

    Select task and hand

Confirm the task and left / right hand; the last configuration can be reused if the task hasn't changed.

  4. 04

    Record

Press REC once to start and twice to stop. A segment enters the sync queue only after it is written locally.

  5. 05

    Automatic archiving

Once online, queued segments are uploaded to the NAS automatically; data is cleaned up only after success is confirmed.

  • Choose GB or GT by experiment goal; check the GT two-hand kit against the documented package list.
  • Confirm the NAS rsync service, account permissions, task organization and network environment.
  • Check video, IMU, width and GT tactile data one by one, keeping calibration and alignment reports.
  • Evaluate the value of added tactile information on fixed tasks; rated sensor figures are not robot task success rates.
